Salbutamol tablets belong to a group of medicines called selective beta-2-androgenic agonists, which can be used to relax the muscles of the airways and womb. Salbutamol tablets may be used in:
asthma, to relieve the narrowing of the airways
chronic bronchitis
emphysema
the prevention of premature labour.
Salbutamol or albuterol is a short-acting ² 2-adrenergic receptor agonist used for the relief of bronchospasm in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Salbutamol stimulates adenyl cyclase the enzyme which catalyzes the formation of cyclic AMP from ATP.The cyclic AMP thus formed mediates the cellular responses. Salbutamol exerts direct & preferential action on beta 2 adrenoreceptors including those of the bronchial tree & uterus.

Salbutamol is readily absorbed from the G.I. tract. It is subject to first - pass metabolism in the liver, about a half is excreted in the urine as an inactive sulphate conjugate, following oral administration ( the rest being unchanged Salbutamol) The plasma half life has been estimated to range from about 2 to as much as 7 hours. In general the intermediate values have followed oral administration .
