Oral rehydration salts are used in oral rehydration therapy. ORT is a simple treatment for dehydration associated with diarrhea, particularly gastroenteritis or gastroenteropathy, such as that caused by cholera or rotavirus. ORT consists of a solution of salts and sugars which is taken by mouth. It is used around the world, but is most important in the developing world, where it saves millions of children a year from death due to diarrhea - the second leading cause of death in children under five.

In 2006, the World Health Organization ( WHO) and UNICEF announced a new formula for combating dehydration and acute diarrheal disease. Our Oral Rehydration Salts are the most effective and least expensive method of treating Diarrheal disease. The prevention of diarrhea depends upon improvements in water supply, sanitation, and hygiene. But in the meantime, the majority of deaths from diarrheal dehydration can be cheaply prevented by oral rehydration therapy ( ORT) . ORT alone is an effective treatment for 90-95% of patients suffering from acute watery diarrhea, regardless of cause. This makes intravenous drip therapy unnecessary in all but the most severe cases.
