In this form charcoal was important to early chemists and was a constituent of formulas for mixtures such as gunpowder. Due to its high surface area charcoal can be used as a filter, as a catalyst or as an absorbent.
Charcoal is used in the emergency treatment of certain kinds of poisoning.it helps to prevent the poison from being absorbed from the stomach into the body. Some activated charcoal products contains sorbitols.it also works as a laxative, for elimination of the poison from the body.
