UPSTREAM SECTOR OIL & GAS INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN INDONESIA

The whole potential of investment in upstream and downstream oil and gas sector is an opportunity for supporting business activities of oil and gas, both for oil and gas industry and supporting services. Oil and gas sector investment opportunities in Indonesia both at the upstream and downstream oil and gas is still very promising present and future.

Geologically, Indonesia still has the potential for substantial hydrocarbon availability. Government plans to maintain oil production at a rate of 1 million barrels per day will certainly provide great investment opportunities that the upstream sector.

In the downstream sector, to meet the fuel needs of the domestic investment needed to complete the construction of other infrastructure such as developing of storage tanks, transmission pipelines and gas distribution as well as other transportation modes.

Commodities are cultivated, produced and marketed in oil and gas industry consists of, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, gas, coal methane ( coal bed methane) , fuel oil, fuel gas, other fuels, LPG ( liquefied petroleum gas) , LNG ( liquefied natural gas) and other processed products derived from business activities of oil and gas processing.

In terms of regulation, the Government has issued a product safety legislation to provide assurance of trying. As Oil and Gas Law No.. 22 Year 2001 on Oil and Gas, PP. 34 of 2005 which is a product derived from oil and gas law governing the conduct and supervision of oil and gas upstream activities and PP. 36 of 2004 which regulates the implementation and monitoring of the downstream oil and gas activities in order to create a business climate that holds the oil and gas downstream competition principles need reasonable.
.
National oil and gas resource potential is still quite large, 60 basin accumulate in sediments ( basin) are scattered in almost all regions in Indonesia. Of the 60 basins, 38 basins have done the exploration and the rest did not do exploration. From the basin which have been explored, 16 basins have produced hydrocarbons, 9 basin has not been produced, although it has been found hydrocarbon content, while the remaining 15 basins have not been found hydrocarbon content.

Based on data issued by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas reserves in 2009. Resources and reserves of oil and gas in Indonesia as follows:

Fossil Energy Resources Reserve Production The ratio C / P
Petroleum 71.52 billion barrels 7.99 billion barrels 346 million barrels 23
Natural Gas 334.5 TSCF 159.63 TSCF 3.03 TSCF 53
CBM 453 TSCF

The above conditions indicate that the chances of exploration activities in Indonesia is still wide open, especially from 22 basins that have not been carried out exploration activities, mostly located in the deep ocean ( deep sea) , especially in Eastern Indonesia. The ratio of data discovery in 2009 reached 47 percent plus the cost of discovery ( finding cost) for the basin area of mostly located in the offshore is also relatively lower when compared with other regions in Southeast Asia, then the prospects for upstream oil and gas investment in Indonesia is still competitive and quite promising.
