The case hinges, and usually will not affect the operation of the laptop but it is so obvious. Although the broken hinge, can lead to cracking the screen when the lid is not opened / closed very carefully. Often one side of the hinge is bonded to a piece of plastic so that the replacement of one or both of these cases may require changing the hinges from the plastic case. Some make the laptop seem to always show the exact same thing cracks even during normal use, so replacement in this case, the case might not make sense. Typical cases / hinge repair costs but are often impossible to obtain replacement parts.
