The Balinese language, is made up of 4 levels of speech: Ceremonial: Alus singgih, Formal: Alus mider, Polite: Alus sor and Casual: Biasa.

In this book we use two forms: respectful, to address strangers and acquaintances, and casual to use with close friends and family.We suggest learning the respectful form first; since it is better to be too polite than risk been rude.
