Recently SRTRI started a Weavers Guidance Cell, a Centre for Training in Development of Textile Design with the following core objectives:
Training the rural unemployed youth exclusively from weaver families
Development of Textile Designs by using computer software.
Counselling to the weavers on changing trends in designing with net-working facility.
Extension of textile design with R& D back-up
While empowering the rural youth with modern technical aids, the proposed Centre will also act as a catalyst in enabling the weavers to translate their design ideas into reality. This would in turn equip the youth with the knowledge of manipulating the designs to suit the taste of modern trends in the domestic and international market. It would provide them access with upto date market fluctuations ( including export market) and premium pricing for their product.
