    kesi Silk tapestry weaving

    Quantity Order:

    Specification :

Silk tapestry weaving known as kesi or ko'ssu in Chinese, is an old and rarely practiced art form. It entails the intricate weaving by hand of decorative designs and brocades, sacred iconography or calligraphy. Tapestry technique, although a very time consuming and labor intensive craft (one large piece can take a single weaver years to complete) lends itself to very intricate pictorial and patterning effects, but can be woven on the simplest of looms whether vertical or horizontal. Weavings are and were used for interior dècor, special articles of clothing, religious offerings, altar and shrine room decorations etc. Silk tapestries were once widely produced in various regions of the world, reaching a peak during the Chinese Song Dynasty in the 10th - 13th centuries. It has now become a dying art. Creating silk tapestries, our workshop hopes to revive and preserve this rare art form and create truly unique art works of outstanding quality and craftsmanship, producing what will become the antiques of tomorrow. We use pure Chinese silk of only the finest quality and threads are colored with natural dyestuffs at our workshop. Please use our contact page to commission tapestries or for further information.
