Titanium dioxide ( TiO2) creates electrons when receiving ultraviolet rays of 360 ~ 380nm and it achieves a photoelectronic plasma state. Therefore, it produces the hydroxyl radical ( OH) and superoxide ( O2) which are strong oxidants. The hydroxyl radical and superoxide oxidize and decompose organic compounds, and change them into water and carbon dioxide. The OH radical created on this principle oxidizes and decomposes pollutants in the air and bacteria as well because bacteria are also organic compounds. Such a sterilizing effect has a stronger oxidative power that is 206% higher than that of chlorine and 157% higher than that of hydrogen peroxide, and it demonstrates a sterilizing speed 2, 000 times stronger than ozone and over 180 times faster than that of ozone and ultraviolet rays.
