Overview.
Alginate is one type of phicocolloid derived from brown seaweed. Obtained by Sargassum sp extract from brown seaweed as a kind of natural wealth of Indonesia. Because of that alginate is a natural ingredient from the sea. In the form of salts, Sodium Alginate is widely used in food products, Pharmaceutical and cosmetic preparations, and various other industrial products.

Through research, regular consumption of sodium alginate can inhibit the absorption of cholesterol and glucose in the small intestine so it is very useful for the prevention of overweight ( obesity) , lowering cholesterol and lowering blood sugar levels in diabetics. In addition to these uses has also been reported that the reply form a gel in the stomach, sodium alginate can also reduce inflammation of the stomach ( gastritis) , and digestion.
