Hexamethylene-1,6-diisocyanate, with molecular formula: C8H12O2N2
Ó„:O=C=N-(CH2)6-N=C=Omelting point 122 (1.33KPa), flash point 140 , spontaneous ignition point 454, melting point -67 , is a colorless or yellowish liquid with light thrill odor, flammable, and dissolvable with organic solvents, such as benzene, toluene etc. HDI is a fast developed new raw material for polyurethanes, and a typical aliphatic isocyanate, is very active in reaction with materials containing active hydrogen, alcohols, acids, and amines, decomposing with water. HDI reacts with amines to form substituted urea, with alcohols to diamino-urethane or with glycols to polyurethanes. In suitable conditions, HDI agglutinates itself to form polymer.
