Imatinib inhibits the growth signaling processes, suppressing replication and ultimately causing death of Philadelphia-chromosome positive chronic myeloid leukemia cells. Imatinib also appears to have growth inhibitory effects in some diseases such as GIST that is c-Kit positive.
