Specification
The AED Defibtech Lifeline is the only model available in the United States, but it certainly does not disappoint. This black and yellow color scheme unique is the design that demands attention. The shape is reminiscent of a Speak & Spell - but the toy looks really complicated than this AED ( and it' s definitely a good thing) .
There is nothing subtle about Lifeline seeking. It just seems rude. It has two large buttons on the front: on / off and shock. What more do you need? Three LEDs and a big round speakers in the front of the unit. Handles, sides and bottom covered in a rubbery material that helps it grip the surface and survive small drops and bumps with no significant cosmetic damage. Defibtech strikes a good balance between rugged enough for industrial and public safety, yet simple enough to minimally-trained responders.
One feature we noticed right away is the handle. Equipped with a large rubber grip with finger grooves that makes carrying easy Lifeline, even with work gloves. If you plan to place the AED in industrial settings or other areas where safety gloves regularly used, this could be an important feature. The Lifeline is easy to carry and feels solid in your hand. Some AED lack of a built-in handle, which makes them more difficult to carry safe with only one arm, let alone without a bag.
Rubber button on the front panel Defibtech Lifeline AED is very large. They are backlit for easy vision in low light conditions. They are also hidden to prevent them from being accidentally pushed.
In addition to voice prompts, three LEDs indicate the status of the unit. If, for example, the pads do not make a fit with the chest, " check pads" indicator will light up. Other indicators include " do not touch the patient" and " analyze." As with most AEDs, these visual cues can be very useful for users of hearing loss or when the AED is used in very noisy environments.
How It Works: Turn on and connect the electrode pads
The AED is turned on by pressing the big green button on the front. A state of calm voice, " Call for help. Remove pads from the package in the back of the unit. Apply pads to patient' s bare chest, as shown" These instructions are simple and universal .. First, he reminds the user that they should call 911 for additional assistance ( if they have not already) . Then tell the user which may not be familiar with where to find the AED electrode pads and that they need to be opened. It also reminds them that they need to bare their chests before the electrodes. The device will continue to coach the user to " apply pads" until action is completed.
If the pads are not connected or applied incorrectly, Defibtech Lifeline will begin to guide the user through the process of fixing the problem. Two error message, " Connect the pads" and " Plug in and apply the pads" indicates a problem with the connector electrode, lead wire, or electrode pads themselves. At this point the user should try to reset the plug connector and make sure that the bandage has been applied to patient' s bare chest.
Other error messages include, " Poor pad contact for patients. Press the pads firmly, " and " replace bearings" Although the adhesive electrode pads work very well, sometimes because of excessive chest hair or sweaty they may have applied too lightly or not attached exactly .. In this scenario, AED efforts to help the user to press them to try to make a better connection. In other situations, the package may have been violated foil pad causes the pad electrode gel adhesive dries. This could lead to the wrong impedance condition which would require replacing the pads with a new set. Although it is rare to have a situation when the bearing itself is non-functional, always a good idea to keep spare sets of pads ready to go - especially if the AED is stored in an environment where packaging can be exposed to wear a pad.
If the AED senses the failure to fix the problem, he will say " stop for CPR" and take a break two minutes of trying to corrective action. Although defibrillation is very important, it helps to ensure that users do not spend the whole time trying to fix the problem and ignore the other important part of resuscitation: the blood get oxygen to the brain.
How It Works: Analyzing heart rhythm
When the Defibtech Lifeline felt that the pads have been used appropriately, it will start automatically analyzes the heart rhythm of patients to seek a shockable rhythm ( ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia) . During this process will inform the user that it is " analyzing the heart rhythm" and " do not touch the patient." This process only takes a few seconds.
During the analysis of rhythm, the AED requires that the patient is not touched or moved, and that no excessive electromagnetic interference in the area. Although unlikely, it is possible that devices such as two-way radios and even cell phones operated in very close proximity with AEDs can cause interference. If the device indicates that the user must " stop motion" or " stop the disruption, " potential sources of interference must be removed.
When the AED has determined whether or not shockable heart rhythm, it will show that finding by one of two audio messages: " shock advised" or " no shock advised." If the AED determines that a shock advised, ECG analysis will continue as the demands of the unit while preparing to give a shock. During this process AED will argue that it' s " charging" and that users should continue to " stand clear."
