The heating chamber of these furnaces consist of a robust ceramic muffle with the heating coil wrapped around the outside. This leaves a clear working interior, uncluttered by heating elements. It also avoids the problem of fragile elements being physically damaged by samples. Furthermore, heating elements that are exposed inside the chamber in competitive models can be attacked by oxides, halogens and even water vapors, all of which can drastically shorten the element’ s life. Lastly, this method gives stable temperatures as the chamber is heated from all four sides.
The heating elements must reach very high temperatures in order to warm the chamber, so it is encased in three layers of high quality, asbestos free, insulation. The low thermal mass insulation also aids fast warm up by reflecting the heat back into the muffle.
In order to ensure a cool outer case, the Stuart Furnaces have a unique double skin and air flow system that continually blows a curtain of air over the layers of insulation to remove excess heat. The fan remains functioning for a period of time after switch off to facilitate rapid cooling which extends the life of Furnace components.
The parallel link door opens upwards to allow easy and safe access to the chamber. As the door is opened, it shields the operator from hot surfaces and automatically isolates the heating element.
Each Furnace has an exhaust vent where an accessory chimney can be easily fitted. There is also a built in port to the chamber where a secondary temperature probe can be introduced for more complex research applications
